The inspiration for TravelRooms.org came from a personal experience that left me hopeful, excited and forever changed. I was preparing for a business trip at the last minute to Washington, D.C. All hotel rooms were either booked or too expensive. I was a member of an environmental singles website and had a brainstorm. What if I emailed all the women in the DC area and asked them if they had a spare room to rent to a fellow environmental traveler? So I did. I offered compensation and the notion that a new friendship or even perhaps a business relationship could develop. It worked like a charm. I stayed with a new friend and was awed by what a wonderful experience I had. She knew all the hot spots and since she also was also a member of the singles site, we shared values and viewpoints. And she was two miles from the Convention Center where I needed to be! We have become dear friends.

When I returned home, I searched on the net to see if any such sites existed that paired travelers with host homes and couldn't find any. Thus the genesis for TravelRooms.org.
